Not all B3.  Some are frightened of loneliness, lack of activity.  The trick is to have interests and joining groups to share them so that you have new and old friends, can share common interests and organise activities that are linked or just for the heck of it.

Volunteering is a good way to keep skills alive too and a sense of purpose.   Good diet and exercise keep you fit and healthy to enjoy a long and happy retirement.

What you should not do is sit at home moping and expecting the world to come to you.

I know you shouldn't base your vote on anything as trivial as appearance, but what if every time you watched the news or opened a newspaper, you had to look at a member of this rogues' gallery? :s

Regarding somewhere demanding a mobile phone number.  I just reverse a couple of digits when I'm handing it over.  Works for me but I suspect some poor so and so is getting some very odd and unexpected calls. :)>:)

I guess that would work if they're just wanting a contact point @KT53, the big W want to send me a code so I can shop online

    That is slightly more problematic.

You could buy a cheapo payg phone with minimum credit and use only it for that kind of thing.

I surely could @B3 but I don't see why I should, if they want my business I can think of several ways they can keep it. Or not  ;)

Could you give them the number for a friend/family member who could then give you a ring/ email with the code.
It sounds bonkers, but no more so than some of the stuff they do. ;)
I bet it's all down to " data protection " that's what most of the bizarre new "rules" are all about.

Excellent idea @Hostafan1! Can I count you as a friend maybe?

To be fair the poor call centre woose did say they haven't yet come to a decision, so why send me a leaflet and provoke my phone call?

Or why not say on the leaflet - non mobile users will be advised at a later date.
