I have a bronze fennel plant and I am going to collect the seed and sow in the spring. Will the seedling come up as bronze fennel or will they be a mix of green and bronze.
@Dovefromabove reading back was interesting you use it as a screen I was thinking of doing just that at the allotment next year now I know it works I will
It's lovely sitting in our quiet corner and watching the hundreds of hover flies on the fennel ... I've found that hornets are drawn to it too ... sitting watching a hornet on the fennel in the autumn is a lovely memory ... I took a photo but I can't find it ...
The whole area was dug over this year in order to construct a small pergola in that corner so there's no fennel there this year ... but the sweetcorn at that end of the veg patch is providing an adequate screen for our quiet corner at the moment
I've found that a proportion of the seedlings from a Bronze fennel will be green ... but it's not too onerous to weed them out if you want to have all bronze plants
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
To be honest I do not mind what colour they turn out as. I just love the foliage and the insect life that they attract to the garden. If I get a mix all the better
