Yes - forget the food Dave. It won't do any good to feed plants that are already struggling, although I can understand why you might think it would help.  :)
As they were potted plants, it's very possible that they weren't loosened up before planting, and the roots have therefore just gone round and round instead of out into the surrounding soil. They should also have been really moist before planting, and the planting holes should have contained decent soil and compost [even some well rotted manure, which helps conserve moisture,  considering the current ground conditions many people are experiencing ] which should have been damp, and they should then have been thoroughly soaked after planting. A mulch on top of that would also have been beneficial.
Laurels are tough, but if they aren't given a decent start, they'll not thrive.

If someone planted those without doing all that, it's no wonder they've turned up their toes. Get in touch with whoever did them with those photos attached. Good luck.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I have emailed them no reply as yet , they came in pots but I didn't see them plant them, they just said keep them well watered

I'd be asking why a tree surgeon is planting hedges!

They will almost certainly need to be replaced.
