No lapping here, just want to see a bit of fairness. There has already been a recent example of a poster dissing Monty totally unfairly, and we have no idea whether Monty did say, Dahlias don't flower 1st. year from seed.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
I always grow a packet each year and as they are smaller plants than growing tubers they fill front of borders lovely mine have always flowered no probs in autumn save tubers as normal and plant following year always got plenty flowers for cutting
Last year I ordered a whole range of Bishop dahlias online. All except one rotted so I won't be trying them again.
I have found it impossible to get any dahlia tubers with dark foliage in local shops this year and, so far, the green leaved tubers I bought and planted are proving to be very slow. I shall try sowing Bishop's Children next year and keep the ones I like to grow on and on and on - with any luck.

Thank you all for your responses, l certainly did not want to give the impression of dissing Monty. This was something said by my neighbour, and as l hadn't seen the programme myself, l knew this forum is the place to come for help. Thanks again.
Got a free packet a seed in Garden News, I didnt believe they would flower the first year either, I cant read the label anymore, looks like pompand. I sowed them late, so definitely didnt expect miracles. I potted them on, and was amazed some had quite big tubers, they are not far of flowering.
I panted dahlias from seed last year and this year, I didn't expect last years to come again, but they did much to my surprise and they were substantially bigger this year. They flower in first year in my experiences.
