The quickest way to get rid of it is to put the poster on your ignore list and then click on Discussions. That removes it and gives the mods a chance to get to it.
The better way to get rid of it is to flag it as spam, which removes it from everyone else's view, not only your own.

They were posting spam faster than we could flag this morning ... over 40 pages of 20 posts per page and rising ... it didn't stop until the Mods got in.

But that doesn't remove it until the Mods can get to it. I didn't say no-one should flag it, I just gave a way of getting rid of it so that we don't lose people.

Yeah I know Dove, I was here and tried but gave up very quickly. But if it had been the weekend, we'd have needed all hands to the flag pumps to at least try.

We could have tried but if they'd carried on posting at this morning's rate we'd have been overwhelmed ... the number of regulars posting at weekends often drops ... that's why I suggested a way of keeping lines of communication open at least ... not suggesting that we shouldn't try ...

this assumes only one spammer, there were loads. I tried that and it didn't alter much and doesn't help anyone else.

I'm not disagreeing with your point, Dove, just asking Laura to think a little more community-wise. If we had that sort of attack again, we'd need to bookmark in order to stay in touch so we could organise and target. I agree it'll take us some time and that's if they stop. I imagine if they carried on at that rate for a while, the site would crash eventually, whatever we try

I believe once it has 5 flags it goes automatically. It does not require any additional moderator involvement.
In saying that, as has been pointed out, today’s occurrence was not really addressable by members due to the sheer volume.

I'm afraid that doesn't work any more. There are threads started by folk on my ignore list whose threads I still see and I tried it with one of the Chinese posters this morning and they were all still there.
