Lots of Dylan songs have been covered better than he did. All along the watchtower, Jimi Hendrix Mr Tamborine man, The Byrds Make you feel my love, Adele https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0put0_a--Ng Mighty quinn, Manfred mann Also A little help from my friends , Van Morrison.
I'm of the opinion that music we love is pretty much purely associative. We love it because it reminds us of something. I love A&G's Sound of Silence because it reminds me of student days. I have no feeling for the cover by The Disturbed because it carries no emotive meaning for me. I have no people or places associated with it. It also makes me wonder why Metal bands choose names like Aborted Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Septicflesh and The Disturbed. It makes me suppose they have been terribly abused as kids. That seems to be the implication.
