It's those hideous big, blowsy, ballon shaped ones that I loathe. I always think they look ridiculous in any setting.
Bananas - I  like, but couldn't be bothered with the faff, and I don't have room here anyway. Perhaps when I retire, I may have all these things.... ;)

My banana gets planted once a year, ( an hour max ) I don't have to water it, feed it, stake it, train it, deadhead it , it doesn't get attacked by aphids or slugs and isn't prone to any disease and everyone says " WOW" when they see it.
I dig it up at the end of the season, another hour tops and that's it.
    No faff
What other plants in the garden are LESS faff than that? 2 hours in a whole year!

I ain't bringing it into my bedroom for the winter Hosta.... :D
To be honest - I really don't have anywhere suitable it could go, and the wind would annihilate it. The cannas were hard enough when I had them  ;)

Even if you only have it for the season, you can buy them for about £10.
How far would £10 worth of petrol take you? how much would you get in a pub / supermarket / restaurant for £10? Wouldn't even get you 2 tickets in a cinema for a film lasting a couple of hours.
The wind, I'll grant you, does them no favours.

Are you the Banana Marketing Board in disguise, Hosta?

Remember when there were Marketing Boards? Ahhhh.

I'm loving my banana (Musa basjoo) - new to me this year. It's in a pot and appears to be making lots of 'pups' - maybe I could send you one a year, Fairy? When I've learnt how to deal with them, that is.

     :D

I do actually like them - very structural, but I'm not kidding when I say I have nowhere suitable for it, and overwintering here would be very hit and miss - even with my new little greenhouse.
