Gardeners World

Does anyone else think that there are now too many 'special reports' on Gardeners World these days? Don't get me wrong, I love the programme and never miss it, but sometimes there are so many special features, that we're only at Longmeadow with Monty for a few minutes. I prefer to being 'taught' by Monty for the vast majority of the time, with perhaps just a couple of features of garden visits/interviews per programme. Also, is anyone else wondering when we're going to see progress on Monty's paradise garden? Actually, I haven't seen all of yesterday's programme yet, so maybe we see it then...?

The other features appeal to me more because I like to see what other people around the country are up to. A mixture of specialist growers and restoration coverage is mostly uplifting and inspiring. That might be due to the fact that I'm practically an arm-chair gardener and like seeing variety rather than one garden.
As for the paradise garden, yes I would like to see some progress but suspect many of the early bits will be heavy building work. Interesting you say you prefer to be taught by Monty. I was lucky enough to listen to Carol Klein speak for 45 minutes in Hampton Court recently. It was an emotional speech, and I found she was far more interesting to listen to, and her relaxed manner and passion made learning so much more natural and believable.
The visits and specials show us other gardens, other gardeners and their style and methods, other situations and possibilities that we can adapt and we get to see an overall effect too. In Monty's garden we see him plonk stuff in but don't get to see the whole border so have no idea if it's good/bad/indifferent.
As for the paradise garden, surely seeing the structural development would be instructive for anyone who wants to have a go, tho if they've any sense, they'll do their own research starting with GH's book and DVD on the subject.
