With respect to the OP, Monty didn't state that it only needed 10 seconds per day, rather that it needed " misting everyday". A bit unfair to accuse him of an inaccuracy and then misquote him.
I'm just paraphrasing him @scroggin. Just an average interpretation of what he said.

I just re-watched the clip on iPlayer and Monty first says that in hot weather they must be "kept moist" he then recommended "misting every day" with no reference to duration

This post is nit picky...I watched the episode last night on I player and the duration of misting was not mentioned. The clip was also heavily edited and with good cause as I see little benefit in watching MD mist a plant for 5 minutes. Particular a niche plant that 95% if would never own

I said "a 10 second mist on a tree fern every so often"  ;)

    I've got a 7-foot Dicksonia antarctica in my flat. It's awesome! <3
  • Misting plants is, in actual fact, very overrated. The only misting that has any real effect is something like the very frequent, very regular misting that the automatic system does in the Princess of Wales Conservatory at Kew Gardens. I haven't misted any of my plants for years, and none of them have misted it  ;)

I have tried very hard to avoid this thread, as I like Monty and I know that others don't and people end up bickering.
However the thread poster is not correct in what she says, Monty never mentioned 10 seconds, BUT has regularly stated that Tree ferns need to be kept moist.
Also as our regular Australian poster Pat E has stated, Tree ferns should be watered from above, as well as having the trunk soaked.
