Help! Rockery behind pond

My new home as you will see from the photo has a rockery full of plants in a pretty inaccessible place. Weeds and wild grass are appearing. I can't wade in the pond as I would risk breaking the liner. Any ideas please? I did try approaching from the right hand side against the hedge but nearly fell in the pond.

Access from next door? Put down a long board and walk across?

Or it could be a hands and knees job from the right (cut back the juniper? at the rhs a bit first). But the sturdy long board or even better, a ladder, would do the trick.

You've got a lot going on over there. We had to put a plank over our "Stream" till we sorted out a rustic bridge as a permanent measure.

  • Gosh at my age I wouldn't chance my luck crawling across a board or ladder. I would more than likely end up in A&,E! Perhaps a small grandchild could be employed. No access from neighbour but could try some pruning. The only problem with that is that there is now, courtesy of my husband, a 1m hole down to the missing rusty manhole cover he has searching for over the last few weeks.

    Thanks VG.

A bridge could look very cool.

Some people just don't think ahead, do they?  Like painting yourself into a corner.  Could you contact the previous occupiers, and ask how they maintained it?  Or the neighbours might know.  It does look lovely though.
  • Unfortunately not in touch with previous owners. I could try the neighbour as she did help us locate 1 of the 2 missing manholes.

Hmmm ... do funds stretch to getting someone (reputable) in to extend the paving at the sides to make a path right around the back ? You probably wouldn't be able to see it from front of the pond, but you would probably lose a conifer or two, but they could be replaced.

My OH has suggested a more 'left-field' option which is suspending small grandchild from a drone which could hover over rockery ... he doesn't have any grandchildren  ;)

... or using a deep water fishing rod. You could open to the public and charge for the ride.

I think you need to make a path, perhaps with bark mulch around the back, taking out any conifers if you need to - your safety is more important than the plants.
