@Jjfellowes you enjoy your turf! For the first time in 47 years I no longer have to mow a lawn instead I spend the time and my dwindling energy on gardening. Unfortunately can't help with the join as my lawn is small and with 3 bulk bags of compacted hard-core no mole will come up. It's not maintenance free as it does need a wash now and again as we have a dog but that keeps any weeds at bay. I am hoping we don't have a hose pipe ban because if they send up helicopters looking for well watered green lawns ..........
I don't have personal experience, but a colleague at work had some installed. I'd think the joins shouldn't open up in any way if the prep has been done correctly. I certainly wouldn't be happy if it moves depending on where you stand. That definitely sounds like the ground underneath isn't levelled and firmed properly. Have you contacted the installers and told them you're not happy?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
