Ah, I like the little dangly bits of the venustum (technical term).

I have an Adiantum fern, but I can’t remember which one exactly. It is in a pot outside (shade) for the moment, but I want to plant it in the garden. I hope it will be fine as I really like the airy fronds and the black stems.

Perfect. So it is very hardy then... Thank you, Paul B3.

I think both types are full hardy in the UK, but some stay evergreen when mild.

I believe hardy to below -25C ! The carpeting roots would probably survive lower than that .

On a side note (I do like side notes) my indoor maiden hair fern was look very sorry itself so I fed it some Babybio every week for a month and it's like a whole new plant - masses of new growth, extra height. I've never seen such a change in an indoor plant. I thought it was being temperamental about moisture levels and a sun-diva, but perhaps mine were sulking as hungry.

The newly emerging fronds of A.venustum are particularly nice ; akin to bronze threads , a superb plant .
I have quite a number of ferns in the garden , some common and some unusual ; they seem totally trouble free (pests included) , and seem oblivious of sun or shade .
Wouldn't be without any of them !

Mine is not looking particularly well, but it can’t be food as it has been recently repotted. I wonder if it needs more sunlight. Or maybe it just needs to get used to being outdoors. I’ve bought it from Fibrex earlier this year and it was in a greenhouse.

Sometimes I walk around them backward three times and do a little dance. Occasionally it works.
