🤣 Fairygirl the little blighters get my alstromeria every year, I think the snails came in my new begonias last year as we’ve never had snails before, just nasty slugs 🤨 they’ve had a good chomp on my honeysuckle to!
I think it could be vine weevil damage. The beetle comes out mainly at night, dull black/brown, oval, do not run very quickly and chomp on the leaves of plants. They lay their eggs in pots and when the pupae emerge they eat the roots of the host plant which suddenly collapse.
Check under your pots for the beetles and water the pots regularly every 6 weeks with Provado or similar vine weevil treatment. If the damage is done by slugs or snails you would normally see the slime trails.
I use a hand fork to cut any pests in half or spear them. Nasty but satisfying.
Ive had vine weevil trouble for years cos of all my pots, the soil is rubbish here, like clay! I did a vine weevil treatment about 8 weeks ago & to be honest I stamp on the little buggers, I think I’ve just lost my 5 yr old Bougainvillea to them - no growth or leaves at all, so I suspect it’s them 😡 don’t wine weevil leave bigger notches when eating the leaves?
Thanks Lynn i think so to, we found 2 little snails hiding in the pot 🤨 vine weevil leave similar notches to leaf cutter bees I think - that’s what I thought I had a few years ago, only to find out we had those evil vine weevils! Lost a few of my lovely plants before I knew it wasn’t a bee 😐
I hate those vine weevils, they are about the only think I can’t touch, I pick them out with tweezers for the birds, they lay there in the soil perfectly clean and smug looking 😀
