Our forecast has changed again. 40cms of rain promised overnight. Yeah! When I see it and all that. On the other hand, there are proper clouds looming in from the east so maybe.
Waited till 4:30 to go and do a bit of pottering but it's 34C in the shade and burning hot in the sun so I've rescued smaller pots into shade and watered them again and have retreated indoors. Walkies can wait a few hours I think.
I hope OH's concert goes well Busy. We did your Beth Chatto and Flatford Mill day out 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it but went to Colchester afterwards.
Now my brain's gone blank so I'll just wish everyone a cooler evening and hope you're enjoying the sunshine - except Lyn and Hosta who are having a shower..
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Yes RG. Sweat dripping in my eyes here although we were assured at the contract signing and confirmation of searches that we are not in a flood zone. I don't think 40cm in one go would do even my parched garden much good in one go.

Afties all. Forgot it was July...Been slightly absent outside [after a rubbish night] until about 11am, when it got too hot for me. Got some bits and bobs done though, sowed seeds, potted on things, and watched the wasps having a drink in the pond. I have a lovely bud on my teeny weeny water lily - very exciting. Too hot to go walking - if someone could have helicoptered me onto a hill at about 1800 feet, to miss the low level heat, that would have been fine Lovely sunflower AuntyR. Slightly wish I'd grown a few - but they're usually slug fodder. My bg dark red lilies are superb this year though - they really need split up though. All that time removing lily beetle larvae was worthwhile. 40cm Obelixx- in that case you can definitely spare some for me! Are you missing the thunderstorms/rain r'girl? Been doing s*d all apart from catching up on that series Hidden. Really, really top notch. Hope Hosta's cheeks aren't holding him back....ooh err, missus....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Just went onto Metcheck to see what the latest forecast is for rain and spotted that a new island has appeared off the coast in the English Channel opposite Brighton. Kept that one quiet. Wonder what they'll call it. Any suggestions?
No thunder but we've had enough rain to fill the water butts. I've been out this afternoon and set up an extra barrel in the hopes we get a drop more this evening worth catching.
Time to admire the lilies is always well spent We settled for a nice amble along the River Exe - far too humid for tackling even a small hill. We can drive near to the top of most of the higher ones here, but that means there's often too many other people up there when you get there. You could have a train, like they do in Wales, but you end up with a cafe and a crowd which sort of defeats the object, I'd have thought.
Obs, I should think 40cm in one go on hard ground would only do harm. Hopefully you'll get a more useful, moderate downpour. The Euro radar is showing a little rain over your way, although the heavy stuff looks like it's further west, over towards Brittany, this afternoon.

Checked the weather for next two weeks. Temp to remain in 20s and, at the most, a 4% chance of rain for two hours on two nights. FG, was up your way earlier, coming back from the cemetery via Clarkston, and half thought about going round the NT garden but it was too hot.
I debated as to whether to cut all spent flowers down to the ground or to leave the green there to shelter the soil, glad I cut it all down now.
I had exactly the same conversation with myself, and went for cutting them down too, in the hope the forecast would be right. It's been raining properly for a couple of hours now - not as much as over your way, I think, but definitely worth having
And did we have some😱 all butts and bins full and everything else we could find, both ponds topped up to overflowing, I think that’s all for another month though.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I have seen a rainbow and now the sky has darkened... a lovely refreshing rain shower would be most welcome now. Just having a lovely gin and juniper-infused tonic if anyone fancies??
My sunflowers have have been raised in pots in an old cold frame with no top, which I find deters the slugs quite well. I have some traditional ‘giant’ ones and a few of Autumn Beauty, which should be oranges and reds (sunflowers; not slugs!).
