Still raining heavy, don’t think there will be thunderstorms here but daughter has them, unusual for Cornwall to get more than us. If it goes on until lunch time it may just be a useful bit of rain. Plants look happier already with the colours being enhanced although it needs to go on for all day to wet the baked ground. Roland’s outside baling water from the butts to anything he can find to hold water, no more forecast for the next foreseeable 😢

Good morning July Forkers! Bit of disturbed night, not with thunder (unfortunately) but with a party next door (teenager’s Birthday). On a positive note, the very loud fan we have in the bedroom earned its keep as was both cooling and drowned out much of the noise!
Sunflowers are starting to open - not very tall this year but most look like will have multiple heads:
Gorgeous sunflower Aunty R. Lyn, I hope you get a reasonable amount of rain so you can cut back on watering even for a day. BL, that's a lovely day out you had yesterday.
Happy July everyone 😎. No rain in the fcast here, although a Met office warning ⚠️ for thunderstorms has just popped up on my phone.
Thanks for the Manly explanation Pat - won’t forget that now. Just been talking to the chicklets .....seems like littlest is having a love/hate relationship with sleep 💤......funny coz jet lag didn’t affect me at all over there (but I find the US a nightmare, so I’m not immune to it). Hopefully she’ll start to settle in to it soon.
Beautiful sunflower AuntyRach🌻 Hope Mr Lizzie enjoys his singing - love Ely cathedral, and the fact that you can see it for miles around. ⛪️
Love Alfred Munnings' home and garden BL, one of our favourite places on a summer day ... one of our favourite painters too Many of his paintings are of places and scenes I knew as a child as he grew up and spent time not far from my old stamping ground.
'They' keep saying that there's no chance of a hosepipe ban in this region, but there was also radio discussion of 'snitching on neighbours' for selfish behaviour etc ... I had intended to put the sprinkler on the front border this morning while it's in the shade, but maybe I'll organise some help from OH with a watering can relay instead ... don't want the neighbours to disapprove of me more than they already do , but on the other hand I really don't want my border of butterfly/moth/pollinator friendly plants to turn up their toes ... it's getting a bit frazzled out there.
And while were on the subject of radio broadcasting ... was anyone else irritated at the use this morning of the phrase 'just how unprecedented is this hot spell ?' Unprecedented is unprecedented ....... it cannot be a matter of degree
And breathe ......... anyway, I presume that with the start of Wimbledon tomorrow those of us in the south/south east/East Anglia will be subjected to torrential rain and Cliff Richard before very long

Still heavy rain here, wonderful! All butts, dustbins trugs fans other available containers all filled, both ponds about a third of the way down are now full and overflowing. How lucky we are. I debated as to whether to cut all spent flowers down to the ground or to leave the green there to shelter the soil, glad I cut it all down now.

That’s all very well Dove, but I hope that people are just as zealous about snitching on toddlers’ paddling pools as they are about people trying to keep their plants alive 😳
luckily we don’t have neighbours who can see us (or our paddling pool 😉😇)
Good afternoon everybody , just got back of hols and weather has been better hear ! Going to be busy tidying up garden and allotment , looks like will be getting water from stream at side of garden Hope all’s well

I had exactly the same conversation with myself, and went for cutting them down too, in the hope the forecast would be right. It's been raining properly for a couple of hours now - not as much as over your way, I think, but definitely worth having
