I used big long ones that were shop bought (I salvaged them off my sister though ) for the bottom parts but for the arched bits I used the bamboo from my garden which was still partly green and pliable. I'd had to cut the bamboo back so that a fence panel could be replaced so was glad to find a use for the canes. I don't know how well it will fare in strong winds with the climbers covering them heavily but time will tell I suppose. I have fairy lights along them which look lovely at night.
Notyalca, another idea I've used is to hang 'kokedamas' (plants in a soil filled ball of moss tied with string, i used coconut fibre though) which I think look jungly.
You could add a little dragon or two to your jurassic world too. I love this one that I picked up from Corris in wales especially when he puffs out smoke with a lovely smelling incense cone
Eucomis, you can grow from seed, vipers bugloss, giant variety at Arundel castle garden. yuccas, phormiums, a lot of bananas are pretty hardy, have you got a shed at least you could over winter, you can buys small pups quite cheaply, some gorgeous gardens on here!
Thankyou Mrsgarden. It's continually evolving and where I can be found most of the time I look forward to seeing Notyalca's jurassic garden evolving and other members' jungles
So sorry it took so long for me to reply. Karen your garden is to die for! Those cane arches are next on my list, what an amazing idea! Have you just stuck them in the ground or have you cemented them in or anything?
Thanks for for all your recommendations, i have just bought two musella lasiocarpa and some ornamental grasses (miscanthus, calamagrotis , stipa). And a couple of ferns,it will take some time as this garden is fully on a budget so I will only be able to buy plants slowly when I've saved up. And tend to have to buy the plants small so it'll be a waiting game until they get to the desired height
