Fuchsia 'Tree' - 11 foot approx.

I have recently moved into a house with a large overgrown garden. There are several tree-like fuchsias, which have a long, slim, wilting trunk and a clump of healthy leaves and flowers on the top. Do I just cut it down and remove the roots or is there a chance of cutting down and regrowth? Lynne
