I'd just love to be 20-years old again , with a wide knowledge of trees ; plant some rarities and live long enough to appreciate them . Alas , time is running out !
We're able to appreciate the rarities planted by our forebears, so maybe plant some for our decedents to enjoy?
Hosta, you've reminded me of a story... A young man visits his grandpa, and finds him planting a young walnut tree. "What for?" said the youth, "you won't live long enough to eat the nuts! I try to live every day as if it were my last.". " So did I, at your age," said grandpa. "Now I'm old, I find I prefer to live each day as if I were going to live for ever.". I know the feeling ... I've waited all my life to have a proper garden. I planted four fruit trees in my 63rd year and three more this year, my 67th. The first four were commonplace: morello and Stella cherries, egremont russet apple and a greengage. The latest three are Welsh heritage varieties, two apples and a plum.
Your obvious sense of humour is perhaps only exceeded by your amusing sarcasm ! Good comments though , and greatly appreciated , but they only fortify my own increasingly cynical outlook on life in general .
Incidentally , do you suspect an alliance between B3 and myself ?
PS We used to make our own Battleship games during school lunch-hour ;so much more fun prior to this 'electronic' age .
