Cotoneaster

Daisy33Daisy33 Posts: 1,031
A bloody awful day. Cut back the cotoneaster hedging and half an hour later I thought my face was on fire. My upper lip looks like Mike Tyson had a go and my eyes......... :'( I could barely see and for a while contemplated calling 999.
All I could think of that there must be a special place in Hell for people who put shampoo in animals' eyes for testing. It is agonising.

Still wearing sunglasses, loads of drops, painkillers and a couple of G+Ts.

Be careful out there gardeners.

Oh Daisy, poor you! You must have found an allergen, was it still flowering?.
Must say I've cut back and dug up loads of cotoneaster without problems, but I haven't found much that I am allergic to, so I'm lucky.
Go easy on the G&Ts with the painkillers though!

Thanks buttercup, don't think it is an allergen. Looking at a google page the sap is a direct irritant. I feel like I have had acid thrown in my face.
TY for the warning on the alcohol/painkillers. :)

In case anyone else is worried about cotoneaster here is a pic of my face which I am not concerned about posting, because frankly I would not recognise.

Blimey Daisy, must admit l have never heard of that with cotoneaster. Hope you feel better soon. Do you know which type of cotoneaster it was?

Thanks Anni, much more cheerful, because for a while I did wonder if I should get to a hospital...I really was finding it difficult to see and the pain was bad.

The cotoneaster was here prior to me, and I have pruned it before. This is the first time I have sawed several branches off. I don't know the sp cotoneaster but I will get some pics if you want.

Thanks Daisy, glad you're feeling better. When you feel up to it, if you could post  a photo - OH is going to cut back his mum's cotoneaster hedge, I have told him about what happened to you.

I have not heard of that one but various people do react to very differently. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all. Slept like the proverbial piece of wood and am treating myself to a cup of coffee and a return to bed with a book that I am thankful I can read.

OOh Daisy what a scare! I've never heard that about cotoneaster either and I've hacked away at loads over the years.
    Take care...and anti-histamines!

Oh how horrible Daisy. Not something I've ever heard of either. I  was cutting some back yesterday, as it borders the pavement, but have never had any issue at all. That sounds vile.
Did you go to A&E? Might be worth doing tomorrow if it's not any better, just to put your mind at ease. Take it easy today  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
