An update on the compassion rose at my doorway. Its flowered well so far but it doesn't seem to want to grow taller. Any suggestions? I'd like it to get to 6ft....

I'm considering changing it for another rose that may get taller...
I have alibaba, gloriana and ancient mariner as options.
    All suggestions welcome.

I would keep your Compassion rose... a lot of vigour and energy is going into those two canes veering off to the right, that have grown out from near the base... you could tie them back to the framework but what I would do is after they've finished flowering, is to cut them out completely... thereby transferring the energy into the rest of your rose... I think it would look better too..  your rose is young... it's almost where you want it to be.. I can't see much wrong with it..

    Gloriana looks nice...

Thanks @Marlorena I always appreciate your view on things.
I already cut one of the side canes when it finished because it had mildew ill do the other when the flowers are done.

I'll keep persevering with it. Think I'm just a little impatient becuase I've watched alibaba and gloriana shoot up out the back!

Gloriana has a surprisingly pleasant scent that I imagine would waft well.. So glad I got this rose.

Can't beat compassion for smell though.... Mmmm

  • 'Mortimer Sackler' is a very pretty, very fragrant, pink rose, and virtually thornless.
I have the climbing variety but it is available as a bush rose from David Austin too.
