Bramble?

Hi all...I haven't been in mums garden for a week or so due to I'll health and she has had bramble growing everywhere so last month I cut everything back.   However went put today to see how her rose plants were and saw what I think is bramble growing again but I'm not sure? Any advice would be great :)

U need to dig all root out, they are rhizomes.  if you leave just a scrap of root you will have more grow.    Dont despair there are many worse weeds.

Thanks for your advice. It seems to have grown overnight and I thought it may be bramble again as it's grown sideways and is huge..but wasn't sure..I'll try and get the root and not just cut back:)
  • Use weedkiller or if you want to avoid chemicals you could use a weed burner or some salt. Removing the roots is indeed the simplest method if you have the strength :)

Don't use salt as a weed killer.  Glyphosate is less damaging to the environment than salt.

  • Well yes do not use salt on a large scale on all your weeds otherwise it will make the soil unsuitable for future plant growth. Using a small pinch to kill one bramble is fine.

What's worked for me where it's difficult to get to the roots, is to cut it back to a stump of just a couple of inches and then wait for the new growth.  Once that is about 6 inches high spray with glyphosate as it seems to be absorbed more readily by new growth.

Yes, cut them back and if you can't dig them out treat new growth with a dab/spray of SBK brushwood killer.

I can't help thinking that if small amounts of salt killed weeds effectively no one would have bothered inventing chemical weedkillers, let alone anyone bothering buying it ...
