Centranthus ruber,..'Red valerian',..'Spur valerian',..'Kiss-Me-Quick',..'Devils Beard',..and 'Jupiters Beard',..it has a lovely bloom
However if one should have it in a garden is always debatable,..for example,..at the end of my garden there is a lovely wall built well over 10 decades ago and its a battle to keep it there due to the war with 'Red valarian',..who has knocked chunks of it down by rooting between the crevices and forcing stones apart.
This same plant was introduced by a neighbor 14 years ago to his own garden,..he is long dead but his plant battles with the entire neighborhood,..it will grow in gutters anywhere it can root and expand its roots pushing out anything in its way,..including Chimneys.
The Wall when free of the dreaded Red valerian.
However not 100 yards away its advancing again,..still as strong after 14 years of trying to get rid of it.
But weed them out at seedling stage while the roots are small and they're no bother
You could say the same of buddleja and most ferns but they're still worthwhile garden plants. We have to maintain our gardens, and our walls ... our elderly neighbour had a small holly seedling and some grasses growing on and beginning to penetrate a corner of his flat roof ... if we hadn't spotted it and told his daughter he'd have a leaky roof by now ... maintaining things is just a fact of life ... the alternative is very boring gardens
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I’m all for supporting our pollinators, especially our lovely bees, which is why I love this plant so much. I don't mind keeping an eye on it, wish I could say the same for my dog !!
This is my white one, and I to do love it. I want to get a pink or red one also. They give great height in the garden and are very vibrant. Mine also does not seem to get attacked by the slugs and the snails.

It still is an attractive plant
