They mention access to 'partner gardens'. I am hoping to go to Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Beth Chatto gardens in the next few weeks. I guess RHS membership would not help me there...
@Mary370,..i am in agreement with you at the cost of plants,..i was also shocked when looking at the prices of plants that i was discarding just to make room for something else,..i did ask around as to would anyone like them,..no takers,..most of the plants were Digitalis,..Delphiniums,..Crocosmia,..Aquilegia,..Hydrangeas,..Rose Bushes,..i did get a taker for two Hydrangea about 3ft high,..that was it,..as for the remainder,..dumped,..i still have three rose bushes to get rid of,..these were from cuttings and of course some are now 2ft/60Cm.
Self seeding plants do exactly that and lo and behold one starts saving the seedlings,..it comes naturally,..suddenly one is short of space with the amount of plants produced,..as for seeds i give away as much as i can,..collecting seeds also comes naturally .
Below is half of my small greenhouse,..the images captured yesterday,..sort of getting full,..the seedlings are from those seeds collected.
Anybody looking for seeds,..contact me on the private message system.
I am part of four local swap groups, so, thankfully have managed to give everything away to date - incl an apple tree, Japanese quince, vinca, borage, crocosmia, iris, day lilies. It can build lovely community if you have it to hand. It's how our local gardening group started - from plant swaps. My seeds on offer are on the seed swap listing.
@Fire, l think the RHS card gives you free admittance to Beth Chatto's garden only from November to March. The GW card does do 2 for 1 for Great Dixter but l think that's in September?
Sissinghurst is a National Trust garden so free if you belong to that, otherwise entry and parking to pay. I believe it's changed head gardener now but when I went a few years ago I was amazed at the price of entry plus parking and the tatty state of the garden. Chelsea week and borders fiull of weeds, bulbs gone over but not lifted or cleared or disguised by perennials, nothing at all in the much vaunted new potager and expensive plants on sale but all needing watering so droopy and tatty.
Great Dixter is worth the money and has great plants on sale too.
Beth Chatto is worth the money too and also has great plants on sale and seeds too.
Free access to all RHS gardens for you and a partner all year. Magazine and free expert advice. Lots of partner gardens all over the UK and some here in France too. The RHS does ask that you support those gardens by buying a plant or a cuppa.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
