The goldfinches had all been mauled and left with serious physical damage ! This is probably my fault for trying to encourage wildlife/birds into my garden by planting two very long mixed species hedges many years ago .
Don't get me wrong here , I happen to like cats and as a child witnessed the pleasant and 'mollycoddled' lifestyles of namely two Burmese and two Siamese over the years .
The distinction here was that they were KEPT IN , and not allowed to roam wantonly ; they had large secure runs outdoors and never knew any different .They were quite content with their lot in life and were well looked after .
I totally disagree with allowing cats to roam free (dog owners don't do that) ; their toll on wildlife is evident , and the smell of their excrement is truly sickening .
The last person who brought this subject up (MMM) was banned. We all have different opinions about cats and our gardens, and it has settled down. I would no longer give an opinion on it preferring to read about plant tips.
It is detrimental to a cats health to allow it to roam. How many times do cats have to be knocked over by cars, hurt by treading/standing on something that injures them or eating something bad for them. Not to mention the fleas they pick up that carry dieses .
My final word on here also, unless someone invents a device that will fire any cats that enter my garden into outer space without permanently harming them.
The topic IS relevant to this forum because it affects some people's enjoyment of their gardens, so I make no apology for raising it.
Those who love cats and who post on this forum are, as far as I can tell, largely responsible, and I cannot possibly have a problem with so called "house cats". I wouldn't even laugh if I saw someone walking a cat on a lead; in fact, I'd probably burst into spontaneous applause.
But whether you consider it a relevant topic or not, the selfishness of those who allow their pets to invade other people's property is always going to upset, even infuriate those who don't like their gardens being sullied by stinking muck, and to see small birds and animals reduced to bloodied corpses because of domestic cats' apparent need to play out their hunting instincts.
Getting a dog doesnt work, I have 2, and find cats asleep in my bottom greenhouse, by my veg plot.I love cats/dogs can see both sides.Personally, think the idea of a house cat is cruel, but where we used to live the chap opposites sons had a dog in a flat, and the RSCPA lady who came to check our property for rehoming a dog said dogs dont need walking, I know a lot of people think they need walking for toilet purposes, I believe they need stimulation.

And that's me done.
