I can't bear to kill anything, no matter how malign it may be, but I do put out beer traps for slugs. That's not killing, it's assisted suicide.
Love it josusa47, I feel so much better now as have also put out beer traps. I can now tell my hubby (who likes to tease me as I generally try not to kill anything in the house or garden) that I'm not a murderer after all. 😁😇
I couldn't possibly snip or squash a slug or snail, or use salt baths, etc. After all, as founder of the Forum's Snail Lover's Society, I'd be rather contradictory! Instead of inventing new murder methods, you could always just join up.... https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/1008709/the-snail-lovers-society These days, I grow plants less attractive to slugs/snails. Any vulnerable plants that I do grow are up in hanging baskets, or shelves on my fencing, up on stands, etc or standing in wide saucers of water, which seems to work.
This morning - the squish underfoot of lily beetle larvae [and fornicating adults] was very satisfying. The crap left on my hand when removing the larvae from the plants ...not so....
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
The best pleasure is when I gathered 6L of large slugs (mainly Spanish crosses) and then over three days fed them to my ducklings. squabble grab slurp.. and then a few minutes beak wiping before looking for more. My one remaining duck likes banded snails she treats them like sweets and they go down whole! (I leave them be other than when finding treats for her.) I am most certainly not above cutting them in half with the hoe when I find them, or a boot or poisoning them with pellets, I don't do salt or beer the former as I see no point, if I have had to find the slug I might as well slice it and the latter as I have dogs.
I do have a little wooden box with a wire top up by my house right now which contains four large roman snails.. trying to breed them.
