Guess I was lucky then Eustace! The plugs I ordered were actually "FREE" and I just paid £3.50 post so can't really complain if I still have a chance of getting some toms this year. After about 6 weeks waiting I got onto their customer services to enquire when they might arrive and their answer was "we have to despatch when the plants have reached their optimum condition for transit", I reckon more like they hadn't even been sown! Anyway, the plugs are now planted deeply in 4" pots but next year I will buy my toms from the garden centre where I always go.

As said - they're very easy from seed, but if you only want a few plants, getting them from a garden centre, diy store or similar, is a good way to buy them. They aren't expensive.  :)

Last year I was still harvesting tomatoes in November - to the point I've deliberately not planted any this year as I still feel that I've overdosed on them (screen shot from my instragm feed for proof!)

Yours will catch up so quickly. But next year try growing them from seed. They're possibly the easiest plant to grow from seed and a packet for a pound will serve you a couple of years.

Mine were started in a propagator end of Jan and grown on under grow lights until I planted them outside next to a sunny wall a month ago. Weather has been so good they have not needed any night time protection- so far! They are growing well.

I don’t think 70p each was a bargain for those, you could grow them from seeds so easily.
I sowed mine mid Feb, no propagator, no lights, just kitchen window sill, every single one germinated.
There’s no need usually to sow them until March even April , they all catch up with Natures Own. It’s just that I live in a funny climate where my best months are May and June so I have to have them well up by them or I’m left with green ones at the end of the season.
They now have three trusses of flowers.
If you just want a few seeds of each different variety, pop into the ‘Seed Swap’ thread on here, I’m sure someone will be only to pleased to send you a couple of seeds from different varieties.

When I ordered mine by ‘phone I was told delivery was end of May and they arrived last week. They were also quite small but they normally catch up.  I was also told that the Mini Star cucumbers which I ordered would arrive first week in June so I am hopeful. As I have a greenhouse this shouldn’t be a problem.

They'll be fine ... don't forget, no fertiliser until the first fruits have set  :)
