    According to today's Times, the Venus Flytrap arrived in England from North Carolina. They were known as tippity twitchets, which people assumed was a native American term. Unfortunately it was an 18th-century word for a certain part of a woman's anatomy :)

    My neighbour yesterday was admiring my mimulus flowers but she called them monkey flowers. I haven't heard anyone call them that since my granny!!!

    When I was a youngster we used the name "piss the bed" to refer to Ragwort I think and "Mother-die" was Cow Parsley.
