My elder brother " found " my Dad's war medals and when Mum discovered them missing , he went over to the fields across the road and buried them, meaning to go back for them later. Then he forgot where he'd hidden them. All houses now.
Bones (hopefully animal!), bottles, pottery etc...and....what looks like the top of the headboard of an iron bed. I have tugged it a couple of times and sense no movement at all, so I suspect it’s the whole bed down there! I think part of the garden was a midden for the big house.
I found a golf ball buried in one of my containers the other day. We're about 2 miles from the nearest golf course.
Fox? They bury eggs in pots occasionally. Maybe your neighborhood ones aren't particularly clever?
Corvids will do the same. I've found quite a few balls and white tees around popular perching trees a few miles from the local golf course. They must assume the tees are bone I think.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
