Oh my God, Zenjeff, I'm so embarrassed... yes it does screw on perfectly without that top part... I'm so grateful to you for pointing out the obvious to me... lol...

I think I should just stick to roses.... thanks again... you deserve a beer..

Appreciate all of your help thus far.
Digressing from my original query, I now have a solution that i think would work (the outdoor tap mixer suggested by Zenjeff).

My new hot tap has a double check valve built in. However, my older cold tap does not (typical). It’s about 6 years old. How difficult and/or is it possible to retrofit a valve (https://www.screwfix.com/p/double-check-valve-15mm/96336) to the tap? Note, I also have no idea if I’d need 15mm, 22mm etc.
Or - how difficult and what is involved in replacing the cold tap with this one: https://www.screwfix.com/p/15mm-x-outside-tap-with-double-check-valve/37241

Just add a thingummy like Marlorena has.  Then attach your mixer connector to that.

I could, but those Hozelock non-return valve contraptions are £20. A whole new tap is a fraction of that - providing no 'extra bits' are required. Assuming it's straight forward like...

Depends on if the water pipes are showing usually 15 mm for cold and hot
