I have just had the hot tap fitted and so would assume it meets all regs - is there a foolproof way of assessing whether it has double check valves to prevent reverse flow?
    Maybe ask the plumber?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I found if you lay the hose out on a path or patio in the sun it warms up the water inside enough to take the chill off. My GC's thought it was fine anyway.

Isn't the first chilly shriek half the fun?

The check valve / non-return valve isn't part of the tap.  It is fitted to the tap, between it and the hose.

I don't wish to divert the thread but on this issue, I wonder if anyone could chime in and answer this question please.  I just got a non-return valve only to find that  my tap appears to be 1 inch, but Hozelock valve is for 3/4 or 1/2 inch, so doesn't quite fit, it's close but not quite...  I've used the hose for years without problem, but I read something about it and thought I should get one.
Are they absolutely necessary?  I've no idea what the water regulations are, but I can't believe most people bother too much.   Does anyone know if there's another way around it, or do I need to call in a plumber and get the tap changed to fit the valve...is that the only thing open to me here?.. thanks for any information...

I haven't got that, but I'm not in a new build property.  This is my tap with hose connected.

..this is what I bought, but the top screw connection doesn't fit my tap.
