Sweet peas slow growing

I planted out my sweet peas 3 weeks ago at the base of bamboo canes in a tripod. They were sowed two seeds to a plug and planted out like this.
However even after the recent hot weather they are very slow to grow. The plants look healthy and new leaves are there, they don't appear to want to grow up the canes!
can anyone help please?

Sweet peas won't climb up canes I'm afraid. They aren't twining plants like runner beans, instead they have tiny tendrils that need to cling to something. That doesn't answer your question about them being slow to get going though - if it's any consolation mine are still tiny too. Once they do start getting away you'll either have to keep tying them onto the canes, drape the tripod with pea netting or wind string round and round for them to grab hold of.

Thanks. I am tying them in. Was just worried, as I thought they would shoot away in this weather!

Have they been slugged at all? I'd say heathy looking plants three weeks after planting is great going!

Mine are the same M118, they were strong healthy looking plants when I grew them, but they seem to hate it outside, they have rabbit wire to climb up,but although I've given them the idea of what they have to do,they refuse to do it,and just fall around sulking!

Tie them in with some soft string.
