Monty's giant terracotta pots

I'd love some but the only ones I can find are really expensive?

Giant terracotta pots  ARE really expensive.  I'd love some too. There's always the eurosquillions lottery tomorrow night

They are, especially if baked high enough to make them frost proof in the UK and even then I wouldn't trust them not to flake.    I have a few, nowhere near as big, and give them a couple of coats of clear, mat or satin varnish to protect them from water absorption and thus frost damage.

That's a good idea Obelixx, hadn't thought of that. I've only ever painted a few of mine with emulsion.

I assume Obelixx you coat them on the inside and outside with the clear varnish?

3 coats of acrylic, water based varnish.  Easy to use and clean but 3 coats max or it goes cloudy.   Dries quickly too but I like to let it set for a day between coats.

I just cannot do heavy pots as nice as they look. I just use plastic because my back is in already in bad way.

I love my giant pots from Italian Terrace. Their advice is to fill the bottom third of the pots with crocks so they are very free draining.

There are quality cast plastic that looks a lot like terracotta.. without the cost or worry.  Not sure how it weathers or looks up close.
