Sarcococca Confusa lost leaves

Hello we bought a Sarcococca Confusa last year and it had leaves and got a few small white flowers on but it hasn’t done anything else and it’s lost all of it leaves and no new buds have appeared. Please can someone offer some help? Thanks

  • Oh no :( it was in quite a wet area could that be the cause?

It could have been, they do well here on my dry soil so may dislike wet

  • Ahh that’s a real shame. It’s very odd cause I have done the scratch test and it’s green but it must be too far gone to save 👎🏻

If it's still green underneath the bark, I wouldn't give up hope yet. Wait a few more weeks to see if the current warm and sunny weather will start new growth off.

I think scratching the bark should be in the garden myths thread. It stops showing green eventually but way too late to do anything.

  • Thanks so much the advice everyone. I am going to give it another month and hopefully with the good weather it will show signs of new growth again. I moved it last week somewhere drier so hopefully it’s not too late to save it!

Is it planted in shade? They suffer in the sun. May not be dead, but slowing down in growth. They can tolerate damp soils, but if you bought a small plant, then you need to prepare the planting area well to provide a more free draining situation for it to grow well whilst still young.
