  • Just reviving this thread as an updated warning to you.😕
Make the most of your gardens and walking in the countryside.
I haven't been posting for a few months now, because I've lost the full use of both my legs, and am now classed as disabled.
I can get about slowly with a stick,so I hope I can still get down the steps to potter in the garden. But walking anywhere is out now.

@Valley Gardener ... so very sorry to hear of your difficulties and Really hope that you can find helpful ways to access and enjoy your garden.

It is a lesson to us all to make the most of what we’ve got while we can ... make hay while the sun shines.

  • Thank you Dove, I'm already working out different ways, going down on my backside seems the least dangerous, though Hubby is having a rail installed, the thing is I don't want a horrible metal tubular thing.......anyone know where I can get something more rustic?😊😊

So sorry to hear that V.Gardener. It's indeed a timely reminder of how fine a thread our lives hang by.
I've seen people having ramps/rails done in timber, but  I don't know if that's suitable for you. Handrails for decking are very nice and kind on thehands too.  Wood gets slippy, but there are new products available which might be worth looking into, including those plastic composites which are supposed to be better than wood in shady or wet locations.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Good thinking Fairygirl, something that looks like wood, but isnt. Now they do decking they may do rails,i'll Google it.

@Valley Gardener  there is a wonderful organisation called Remap ... retired engineering-type folk donate their skills and experience to come up with one-off solutions to practical problems confronting folks whose disabilities are preventing them from making the most of their lives.
They may well be able to suggest materials etc.

  • Thank you Dove, I will have a look into that.

  • Thank you Philip, that was nice to wake up to thismorning,in more ways than one,as I spent yesterday afternoon and evening at the hospital with a suspected retina detatchment. (Had my cataracts done last Wednesday) I'm falling to bits!
Any future gardening will be very gentle.........or instructing OH. 😊
