Thanks Fairy - there was a "tummy thing" going round, but I made my mud pies last week before it struck. It's now largely departed, and I'm just tired.
I make very simple suet cake using beef dripping and ground-up peanuts, roughly equal weights of each, just melting the dripping and stirring in the peanuts. But I think you can use lots of different things... I've occasionally added dried mealworms.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Evening all, morning Pat, worked today but have the rest of the week annual leave 😊 went delivering in the countryside and came across wild orchids a plenty on Fressingfield Common!
Evening everyone. Haven’t been able to get onto the site since last night, but ok now. About to leave for my volunteer sting at the Gallery all afternoon. Catch up later.
Good morning all I slept solidly from whenever it was I went to bed ... 9:30 ish? until about a quarter of an hour ago ... Still dry, and a beautiful morning
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Glad you’re over the lurgy Liri - and that your river creation was a success.
Obxx - littlest Chicklet comes home for a week mid June, then she flies off to Oz to see her sister....both then come home in mid July (72 more sleeps )
Early morning GH foray complete, only to discover the bl&&dy deer have eaten nearly all the new leaves off my favourite acer. Sadness
Morning Chicky . bl&&dy deer indeed . The common where Wonky saw the orchids is just up the road from our old home ... a truly magical place ... it's an ancient common which has never ever been cultivated. An SSSI of course.

Decided to put off doing the cleaning yesterday as other half would be back today and could help before guests arrived... ... He's staying on site another day.
Surely that's a bit of an excessive way just to avoid the dusting?
Efforts to slim down over the past few months have resulted in ... non of my summer clothes fitting. Surely they didn't slim down with me?! My body seems desperate to cling on to every excess inch. This does make dressing for bright sunny days in smart office wear a bit tricky. Still if I went in my yoga pants at least everyone would know I am TRYING and do own exercise wear.
No signs of mousey moving back in the greenhouse yet; but oddly we now seem to have a plague of ants over *everything*. I'm hoping this will help with the green fly but do wonder where they suddenly came from in such force.
I'm growing my strawberries in acidic soil this year as an experiment; apparently it's meant to improve the flavour. Has anyone else heard of this?
Ants don't eat greenfly Clari. They farm them for their honeydew so put down some ant poison and blast off the aphids.
Cool here so I'm going to get some more weeding done and then tackle the sanding down of an old wardrobe we've bought to fit an alcove in the New York bedroom. Going to paint it plain white as it's a dark corner. Been having fun painting rusty garden ornaments with a rust treatment so they have a patina and don't rust any more - leaves a stain. Then I suppose I need to tackle the big garden table and oil it.
Another public holiday tomorrow - Ascension - so all noisy jobs need doing today. Friday is going to be a clean day for shopping and lunch out.
Great that junior chick gets to go to Oz and they'll be home before you know it. Shame about your acer. I'd be livid. No such trouble here so far but OH has plans to stop the pigeons eating all our figs this year. he was planning a cage made form bamboo canes. I'm suggesting something rather more sturdy and permanent and, being less tatty, less of an eyesore. It's what I see out of the kitchen window every day.
Glenys - you just melt hard white fat and then stir in peanuts, raisins, meal worms, mixed seeds as you fancy and set it in molds such as coconut shells or even loaf tins then put them somewhere the birds will find them.
Can anyone explain why, whilst working in the same parts of teh garden and doing the same doggy walk together, I picked up 9 new and very itchy bites and OH has none? I am not a sweet little old lady!
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Awake until 3am, so feel plap.
Hopefully a day gardening will buck me up.
