Everything will stop growing in this new cold snap, it’s very cold here now, they took off last week in the few hot days, now stopped. the only thing I have lost are cutting of salvias, doesn’t matter, I can collect seeds this year. Things thought lost have begun to show, Natures hard. Give it time.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Annoyingly, I've had things keel over in the last week or so which had otherwise looked fine all winter. Various irises and I'm most concerned about my T. Rex in the tunnel which had started growing and has now stopped. grrrr
you're growing a T. Rex, have you let Sir David Attenborough know i'm sure he'd be pretty interested!
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement @Purplerain and @Mary370 😊. I gave myself a kick up..... and sowed some calendula the other day. Think i will have a rootle in the seed tin and dig out some tried and tested "good do-ers" that need a minimum of fuss and grow like the clappers.
@PageZ. My bleeding heart is up and starting to flower. Last year they were very late to appear and I dug them up and stuck them in pots while I re-did the patch they were in. Never got round to replanting them but they've been happy in the pots on my north facing patio.
I have both the common pink one and a white "alba" which is really pretty, and I thoroughly recommend if you love dicentras. Got my alba as a bare root for a couple of quid from wilko.
Hi Kitty 2. Thanks for the info. It confirms me that my bleeding heart is truly gone! It is gone!..... I also bought it from wilko. It was the white 'alba' and It did well last year. I am too disheartened to try again...
Oh no @PageZ 😞 such a shame if it really has had it. Did you see Yviestevie's post on pg.4? Hers vanished for a year but came back. Have you checked to see if the crown is hidden under a mulch or old fallen leaves or something? I was advised on the forum to keep it clear of stuff.
My bleeding heart looked like it had gone the way of the dodo, if fact I had lost it. I had a rootle around in the earth and found it underground. It has a fantastically heathy root system, but is not ready to poke its head - even one tiny stem above the earth. I potted it up (so I wouldn't jab it by mistake or put a bush on it). Next year it will flower well, I think.

I did check the surface. I did not know to keep it clear of stuff. It was covered by leafs. Maybe miracle will happen just like Yviestevie said. I will plant some annuals on the top, which does not require too much digging. So if it is still there, the roots will be fine.

They are very hardy, 2 of mine have leafed up, 2 smaller pups appear to have died back but from experience they can lead up in June. So don’t give up on them!
I keep telling myself, and others " it's still only April"
