Winter stop itttt! People will be saying how many days to Christmas! Mine usually go in an unheated greenhouse, when frost is forcast I cover with bubble wrap,  Hubby wanted to keep them in conservatory, but 1/ you cant move, and 2/ they get scale insect and everything is sticky, so they went into a heated greenhouse last winter were all fine, until, when we had the first lot of snow, and 2 nights it was minus 12, unheard of here (SE UK, near South Downs and only 10 minutes from the sea.  They have all lost their leaves apart from 1 lemon, I got called a fair few names, the grapefruit was grown by him from a pip, nearly 20 years ago, according to Mont they will loose their leaves below 10d, you should be OK in Dorset, you would need a might tall cold frame for 3 feet tall bushes.
  • Yes, Nanny Beach, I’m going to get a sort of mini greenhouse or tall cold frame. If your lemon tree was in a heated greenhouse, why has it suffered in the last very cold blast? I am not proposing to heat the cold frame/mini greenhouse...just insulate the citrus trees with the bubble wrap and fleece as suggested by Borderline, Obelixx and MrsGlaze.
    will this not be enough?
