MrsGlaze, I have heard people using duvet covers. Leaving gaps or openings if there is frost will not be ideal. If you are talking about tucking it under the pot and covering the whole pot, I do that with builder's dust sheets because it's the easy option of pegging the sheet down and stopping it from flying off in the wind.
The other thing to think about is the weight of duvet covers and sheets. It might be worth sticking in canes or type of support stop the covers from weighing the leaves and branches down. This is important if you are covering it for more than a few days. If it is very frosty, the pots will need additional protection of bubble wrapping around its outer edge.
A duvet cover would be too heavy for the plants and too thick to allow in light for their leaves and the hole would let in frost so not a good idea for tender evergreens.

Good luck with that then MRSGlaze. I will have to buy one! I’m no good at DIY. how big is your lemon tree? Mine’s about 3ft including the pot...the same for the kumquat. Hope you get some good lemons this year. best wishes...
If you build or buy a decent sized and very sturdy cold frame/mini greenhouse to shelter your citrus over winter you can put a duvet over that at night but not, I would suggest when it is wet and not if you can't tie it firmly down against wind without making it so tight you can't get it off to let light in by day.
Remember also that your citrus will grow so don't skimp on size when choosing winter protection. Get it to last a few years.

Salivating at the thought of my own lemon in gin...on the terrace in some gorgeous summer sunshine...hopefully! That’s if everything goes to plan. Have decided on a sturdy looking tall hardwood coldframe. Not cheap but hopefully will do the job in winter.
