the adultsjust eat the leaves but their larvae when hatched will destroy a plant in a pot 😡
you are lucky but at least you know what to look for now 👍

Vine weevil are the bane of my life! They chomp their way through everything and the grubs are a d****d nuisance because the first you know about them is when a healthy looking plant blows away because it has no roots! I plunge my pots regularly in "stuff" and put a thick layer of grit/gravel over them but nothing works. They're a plague!

i managed to get a vine weevil liquid before it got tookiff the shelves - it’s worked great up to now, I’m wondering did I miss a treatment on the rhododendrums 🙈 they are the Bain of my life to 😡 I kill the adults on site & im gonna have to dig up the rhod later & see if the larvae is there & try & blast it off & then treat the plant/soil again - I feel your pain are they are soo destructive 👊👊
  • What products do people recommend to get rid of the grubs? I’m seeing the adults in a raised bed, and randomly in the shed this evening!
  • Ugly bugs aren't they?  My Rhododendron is still suffering despite taking it,all dried out from a small plastic pot.I planted it in the correct soil, fed it, nipped off the old woody bits, where the new flowers come. It's still getting brown patches on the leaves, and doesn't look good.I keep looking for improvement but it's not happening! And I thought I was doing the right thing by getting it in the ground!!!!!😕
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.

Mine is pathetic. The bed where it is to go took longer to prepare than expected so it's been in a pot for ages. It's all yellow and spindly with picot edging!!! It's now had a serious dose of seaweed with sequestered iron and some VW solution and will be planted out this week. It will have two chances after that...some and none!  :/ Here's hoping.
My heuchera and even some geraniums waiting to go in suffered as well this year! 7 grubs in one 4" pot!!

i use Provado vine weevil killer, I tipped my plant out last night & no sign of anything so that must still be damage from last year 🙈 I think I missed a treatment & they got it 😡 I’ve lost so many plants to the little devils, this is the first in 2 yrs that they’ve got but I must have caught it in time, you use this about 4 times a year, mix with water as per instructions & pour into soil only. I also put egg shells around the base as I believe they don’t like that 👊
    good luck

Check out Vine Weevil Nematodes, a much more effective and organic way to control them.
  • Hi Mark56
dont the conditions have to be quite specific for nematodes to be successful? I’m quite new to gardening & they aren’t cheap, I did read about them a while ago but wasn’t confident enough to go ahead & then it not work & I was over run with vine weevil as everything is in pots
