Thanks Fairy.  Maybe it's a sensitive skin or allergy thing?

I have neither and never wear gloves 🙌 😀

Thanks fidget (snuck in there).  Anthrax 😱
    Old wives tale i hope.

I have a feeling it was when CJD was about and people were asked to be careful when handling blood fish and bone.

Ah - I could understand CJD etc, and I dare say the powers that be always have to cover their backs.
Hadn't heard the anthrax thing though, fidget. Maybe I've been lucky! Thanks for the welcome back ;)

Dunno. I always understood that the baking of bones sterilised it anyway. Maybe they only grind it up. But all the cattle that got foot and mouth were burned in huge horrible piles I seem to remember. Don't they do that with mad cow disease as well?

    Thanks everyone.
  • I remember there was a warning on the Spanish compost, not to handle it without gloves.I believe you can pick up all sorts of nasty things, and you are advised to wear a mask when handling bone meal.Even the compost made from kitchen waste you have to be careful with!  Find out about it on Google! My daughter said her dog got stuck into her box of bone meal.......oh gawd!

I would say there is no need to be anxious.

Its not got me yet. I emptied the tardis of compost this morning, and refilled it from a builders bag this afternoon. Then I mixed some BFB with a bag of home made compost and split a geum up and replanted it in it.  Now, where's that cough mixture?🌻

I must be lucky, resident Mr. Fox isn't interested in FB&B.. has good manners. Same for the terrier even though he's a real fish lover.
