Rhodo's are very hard to id .....even Rhodo experts do not always agree. Time of flowering, Flower shape, colour, Leaf size, shape, inudentum are also part of the equation.
We used to grow 100's of different sp and named cultivars of Rhodo and I would never attempt an id from a pic or in the garden(Except for a very few.... eg...Yellow Hammer/Schlippenbachii.)
Err no! Unless someone has bred a completely different color.
Ah, OK. I did see that R. kaempferi was red when Googling it, but I just assumed that it was available in all colours of the rainbow! Back to the drawing board then ...
