    I blamed the mice for my poor germination, but the Forkers thread has lots saying they have very poor germination this year. I bought little pots of them in B&M the other day, 10 for £7.

    @gwrs do you soak the seeds before you sow them?  It is a great way to see if they will germinate

    I've never pre soaked sweet pea seeds. I rarely have any failures. Seeds sown in cool conditions will take longer to show, but if they sit in cold, wet conditions for too long, or if they're in compost which has inadequate drainage, they will tend to rot rather than germinate. If I sow before April into pots, I keep them sheltered to avoid over saturation, which happens easily here.  Cold frame or against a sheltered wall. If I sow direct, I leave it till around now which is what I've been doing this week. 

    Good quality seed to start with should give good germination rates.  :)

    Agree with fg.
    The only problem I have had this year, was that mice ate my first 2 batches.
