Planting Hostas in the rain

I bought 5 Hostas fully hardy contained so half had no shoots when they arrived. I planted them yesterday but it had been raining for three days and both root ball and soil was very wet so didn't water them in. Is this OK?

  • Thanks Dove and Dad👍 I've always bought them as small plants. This is the first time I've bought them like this. When they arrived, I thought some were just pots of soil! I left them on the patio until the shoots appeared which I now know is wrong. Apparently, I should have planted straight away so am a bit nervous with them anyway. Do you think I should water them in now to be on the safe side?

  • Yes. I'm considering getting the deck chair set up next to the border to sit and watch them grow for the next 3 months. I keep popping out to check them "hmm, I'm sure that one has grown a millimetre since last I looked..." 😹

We've got some of ours in containers and at the moment they're lined up on the terrace alongside the sliding glass wall of our studio, so we can admire/ogle them from indoors

  • Used Nemaslug in September. Have only seen 2 babies since then!! So used it again Tues night and put grit round all the new Hostas today. Fingers crossed.🐌

13!  Favourite place to buy from?   Most eagerly awaited one?

We have a few.  My pond is a bit too sunny otherwise Id surround it with them ... So we have a few pots near entrance so we can regularly check for snails +slugs and i think a couple in ground.  Only one shooting at the mo...
