Plant identification ... first of many!

Hello, we’re trying to make sense of the overgrown garden in our new house. There are many big shrubs, and goodness knows what will emerge in the next few months.

Can anyone ID these as a starter? There are a couple of duplicates, and I’m aware that at least one non shrub has crept in!

    1. Looks like Choisya
    2. Cotoneaster
    3. Brachyglottis
    4. Another Cotoneaster
    5. Looks like a Ruscus
    6. Definitely Choisya
    7. and 8. Not certain but I do not think that 8 is Holly.

The one before the end is Hellebore foetida and could the last one be a Pittosporum? And I thought 2 & 4 might be Lonicera nitida.

Yes PP I reckon you are right with Number 4 - Lonicera but I'm still leaning toward Cotoneaster for Number 2.

That's a lot of mature shrubs...
1 - Choisya Ternata, Mexican Orange Blossom
    2 - Lornicera Nitida
    3 - Brachyglottis
4 - Looks like Lornicea Nitida again
5 - Could be Danae Racemosa, Alexandrian Laurel, but need to see a shot further out
6 - Choisya Ternata, Mexican Orange Blossom
7 - Could be Choisya Dewitteana Aztec Pearl, but not totally sure, needs more growth
8 - Could be Olearia Macrodonta, New Zealand Holly

  • Wow, this is so helpful - thanks so much.

@Borderline - this is only the half of it - I’ll be back as I start to uncover more.

Sophie.e.solly, I can imagine...Saw the garden on the other post. It’s a beautiful mature & well stocked garden. Many of those shrubs have been there for a long time.

Looking back at number 7, I think Plant Pauper is right. The small seedlings about, it’s very likely that is Helleborus Foetidus, Stinking Hellebore and not a Choisya.
