Whats wrong with my hellebores?

I noticed in December my 2 recent hellebore's (this is their 2nd year) were only an inch or two high with a twisted flower on.  Now, after a very cold spell here in North Norfolk, all  (about 6 big plants) my hellebore's look dead! black crispy leaves and limp stems with flowers lying on the ground!
Is it the weather - or do they have something horrible?   They are about 4/5 years old.
and until now have always looked healthy.
anyone got any ideas please?

It’s the weather mine are real mess,  black and hanging,  I am sure  they’ll get better, it’s just the cold, that’s what I’m hoping anyway. 🙂

  • that's encouraging - I thought it might be 'hellebore black death'!  I'm inclined to cut them down and give them a good mulch of leaf mould.  What do you think?
    Thanks.

May as well, I don’t think these black mushy stems are going to recover now.

Hellebores collapse in the frost but they don't go black and they stand up again. Can we see some photos

I’ll take some of mine as well, they’ve gone completely to mush, not all of them just the ones that caught the worst of the ice.

Are hellebores not hardy then? I thought they were rock hard winter flowers. Hmmm

I'm in Norfolk and my hellebores were buried under the snow but they're looking fine now. I'll take some photos
