I'm in a rural area with a sparse population, a long way from the exchange. Broadband speeds very poor, chance of getting fibre infinitesimal this century, 'upgrade' not an option. I sometimes use the dongle from my daughter's laptop, but the signal is unreliable in some weather conditions and the download limit is low. Can't afford a personal satellite signal either. For me, and others in a similar position, the ability to upload large photos has made the board less functional than it was before. I can't comment on some of the questions becaiuse I am unable to see the problems and the gallery threads are inaccessible. We know the 'cure' is better broadband, but it is not available to us.
I get the impression that many forum stalwarts are aware of the problem and are making adjustments so that we can see their photos. It seems to me that the quality of photos for general purposes, such as identification, is not affected over much if the size of the photo is reduced. This might not be the case for some of the pictures posted on threads such as the garden gallery where the issue is more the beauty of the plants or the skill of the photographer but I wouldn't know because I can't see them. I can live with that. If technical adjustments cannot be made by gardeners' world, perhaps those who are 'technologicallyadvantaged', and have photos that they would like to share with us all, could post their photos in both formats.

I think I'll try to compress my photos before posting, just in case.
@NoraGW, has there been discussion about a default small/compression setting for all photos to make them all easy to load?
Is it automatic?
Does it mean something apart from the obvious?
