She did them individually on GW one spring and was much mocked. I do mine in groups of 5 and it works for me but then I'm slowly building up my population and following a "safety in numbers" principle. Haven't seen any growing anywhere else here so I'm being careful with them after bringing them from my Belgian garden.

Yes, I started with just a few precious ones so I don't split them all every year, just whichever two or three clumps look biggest. However, I trust Carol more than anyone else when it comes to propagation, so I might just pick one clump and do them individually this year to see how it goes.

not that I know anything of such parlance, but how does a "tip" differ from a "hack"?

Interesting that she plants snowdrops individually - I've always split clumps into smaller clumps. This year I'll do it her way.
