Really?  Have you contacted Nora about your access problems?  There may be something dead simple that you are missing because you're over thinking it.

Have you made any constructive suggestions for improvements you think are needed?  or are you just sitting in a corner with a superior, but nonetheless befuddled, techy smirk on your face?

Yes, I've placed a bug report and possibly identified the problem (well someone else did, but I'll take the credit, strokes cat beside keyboard, mwah, mwah, hah).

I don't know if it's my computer or just the new-look forum , but it seems slower than it used to be . Yesterday , under 'Categories' I clicked on 'Plants' and it took 16 seconds to actually respond .
Apart from that , the new site is excellent .

The 'all categories' page weighs in at over 5MB with at least 200 http requests (and counting).  On a simple mobile phone data plan of 100MB per month that's only 20 page views (discounting caching).  Don't browse on your mobile plan!  On my modest village ADSL connection (1.8mb/s) it takes about 20seconds to load that page.   On the plants page it weighs in at about 7MB, with again about 200 http requests and counting.  An ad blocker reduces the page requests to less than half and reduces ongoing traffic.  I've had adverts here totally consume the CPU so an adblocker is a real requirement for me.

(Once you are logged in, you can turn javascript off, and then the site is much faster to read and use, though I'd expect much functionality to be reduced, so only do that if you know what you are doing).

On a lighter note, progress has been made on the login issue.  I can now log in again.  Horray!
  • Wayside makes some fair points, and this forum is one of the slower loading pages for me for the same reasons.

I have a particular interest in home grown food, and seed saving and sharing, and there are not many posts here on GW about tomatoes, chillies, courgettes etc. So I follow another forum here:  https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/grapevine/forum.php

Plus some more specialist and/or local FB groups.

You virtually lost me on your explanation (!) , but thanks anyway !
At least I know it's not my computer playing up . I regularly clean using CCleaner , Wise Disk Cleanup and Glary Utilities .
Do you have opinions on them , or recommend any others ? Thanks , PaulB3

Sorry Paul, in short there has been a general trend to increase the amount of page resources.  This is in part as web connections have gotten better.  Those on slower connections/machines can feel it.  It's important to state that GW isn't extraordinary in this regard.  Nice photos of plants and gardens will inevitably bump up page sizes too.

I think the utilities you mention are for Windows, an OS I'm not familiar enough with to comment on these days.

Thanks @Chris 11 , that's great to know, exactly the kind of thing I was after.
