But as with many online resources, they aren't neessarily geographically focused. Or rather a US gardening site, isn't quite as useful as perhaps a UK one.
Wayside - I think you have a bloody cheek! Perfectly normal people using perfectly normal systems have no bother accessing and navigating this site which is free and run by Gardeners' World magazine, not the BBC or the supposedly flagship programme.
If you're having technical issues I suggest you ask Nora, politely, for help. If you don't like it enough to stay and work it out then use your supposed technical skills to google for alternatives. Bit rich asking for directions away from here.

I'm not a very frequent poster, more of a lurking reader, but to be honest I haven't had any difficulties with the gardeners world forum other than historically pictures appearing upside down. I'm using Firefox on a linux machine. I do use adblocker, but only when the ads are very intrusive - my pet hate being when they start playing music or video without warning. But I do think if we want to continue to benefit from free websites we should allow them to make money from advertising, otherwise we'll find everything dominated by large corporations who will then charge for access. If the ads are causing you to think of leaving a site I'd send that feedback so they can improve their design or reject ads from a particularly bad advertiser.

Well the point is I both a web professional and site user. And I am having problems, and have read countless moans in the past about bugs here and there, like image uploads not working every now and then and other usability issues. People must have noticed that the site search was broken for however how long. And that's a really useful and intrinsic part of the site.
If I find it hard to find a workaround for what are genuine bugs, then there isn't much hope for those less tech savvy. I'm glad all is well for those without problems!
I'm not suggesting people aren't prepared to rally round, or that the front facing help desk isn't just as wanting for things to work or to get bugs fixed as the rest of us. And none of this is personal. But if people are getting paid market web development rates to produce something sub-standard - off the back off a community of garden enthusiasts - then that bothers me. Not sure about the funding structure here and whether it's independent or not.
The thing is Wayside, this is a a completely new forum, it's been online for only 5 days ... the majority of us appear to be really pleased with the performance of the new forum over the previous one ... and the majority of us are not tech savvy IT professionals ... just ordinary people who use the internet for browsing, emails and such.
I really find it hard to understand why a web professional should be struggling ... but obviously you are

I am on an Ipad and have never had a problem. I spend many hours using the search box and it is fine for me. My only problem was logging into the new site, but Rory from the team helped me through it.
Adverts help to pay the running costs I assume, but they are not intrusive from where I am sitting. Overall, I would say it's very easy to read and use, but if there is a problem I am sure the team will do all they can to help.

As commented in another thread and not elaborated on above, is that my current frustration lies in that I can't sign into the site under my usual web browser, and I'm not alone on that score - other users have reported the same. There are probably others, that haven't managed to log in, and therefore can't raise it as an issue! Not being able to log in, equals no participation. Sure I found a work around, by using another browser, but others might not be able to. I'd say that's a pretty big accessibility issue, and one that should have been picked up before the 'new' site was rolled out.
That and 2MB page loads, adverts that gobble up my computers' CPU (you'd notice if you'd monitor your computer): help drown polar bears and drain batteries, non secure page resources, poor navigability, enigmatic editing, are all negatives where I'm standing from.
There's nothing wrong in having a moan and being disgruntled. And there's nothing wrong with the idea of frequenting other, or many places or asking for recommendations from other people rather than a search engine. You can dislike a pub or restaurant, but still enjoy the company and a personal recommendation goes along way. Escape the filter bubble.

Nothing wrong at all ... but I've a feeling that if you walk into M&S ... have a good moan about it, criticise the staff and then ask where you can find a better shop you might well be told exactly where to go.

I love the format of the stackexchange sites:
