I have some Castor Oil beans ready to sow next Spring - they are a little tender and look quite exotic, always receiving admiring comments from visitors, and I would be interested to see how well they develop in the u.k. in more sheltered areas.
I usually sow these beans in April. Would anyone be interested in receiving a few - they are poisonous so if you have pets/children who eat plants you might want to pass on this offer. I have seen them on Gardeners World and they appear to thrive in various gardens around Britain.
I’ve seen these plants growing to enormous heights in warm countries, mine grow to about 3’ but they do flower and the colour of the leaves are gorgeous. Really stand out in the borders. Just don’t go poking your umbrella tip in there😀😀
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
@gardeninglily1 just to clarify, only half-hardy annuals won't overwinter. Your hardy annuals and perennials should overwinter, depending on which ones. I have foxglove seedlings (they self-seeded which will overwinter just fine outside). I sowed lots of sea holly late summer/autumn 2017, they overwintered outside and I had flowers this past summer.
